Michelle Obama: Let’s Move!
The first lady, Michelle Obama, has dedicated her time to encouraging kids to get out of the house and PLAY! She started Let’s Move to raise a healthier generation of kids. Unfortunately the epidemic of childhood obesity is becoming more prevalent in our society and this is something that can be fixed with a healthy dose of outside playtime.

It is important to start your kids on a healthy path during their earliest months and years. Let’s Move gives parents and caregivers information on staying healthy. It’s an environment that supports healthy choices and taking action and has the resources to help you do so.
Our children today have a very different lifestyle then you may have had growing up. Kids rarely walk to school anymore and PE classes and after-school sports funding has but cut. After school time is now spent with TV, video games, and the internet. Too much screen time should be avoided. Parents are busier which means less home-cooked meals, extra snacking, eating lots of empty calories and enlarged portion sizes when eating out.
Michelle Obama’s plan is focused on getting healthier options in schools and giving every family access to healthy yet affordable food. It’s also all about getting kids active in fun ways. The first lady herself even hula hoops! It burns more calories than you’d think!
Our first lady has started her crusade to solve the challenge of childhood obesity, so join her fight. According to Let’s Move, “nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese.” Obesity can lead to diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, asthma and even a low self-esteem. Our kids should be happy, not plagued with health and other issues.
Encourage your child to make healthy lifestyle choices and explain to them why it’s so important. Involvement in your child’s health is key!
